Airplanes with Wi-Fi? I'm, back!

So, I've been out of town for a few days on a trip -- but now I'm back!

While sitting on the plane, I came to think of the new concept of "wireless internet connection on planes"; a concept that is quite paradoxal, to me. You see, when boarding the plane, you are always told to turn of all electric devices -- especially those with transmitters. Now, what's the point of wireless internet in the cabin, if you can't enable your wireless transmitter? It's beyond me...

Anyways, sorry for the lack of activity lately! But now I'm back, and it's nice to see the response on my last entry. :)

Introducing innovation by Asus!

This is the Asus NX90JQ. It is not your regular laptop in most ways, some of which I will mention now:

  • There are TWO touchpads, none of which are below the keyboard. They're placed on each side of the keyboard, respectively left and right. Hence although this is an 18.3" laptop, it does not have a num-pad.
  • It has a much better sound-system than most laptops, and that's mostly what's in focus with this laptop. I've been told it has a good bass, in addition to decent surround-virtualization. Sounds good!
However, the screen isn't that good -- according to recent reviews. And for me, the screen is quite important. Especially when buying such an expensive laptop, the screen should at least be half good.

Anyways, I think, for me, this laptop is a bit too big. I don't need as much performance as Asus has packed into this, so I'm still on the lookout..

What do you guys think? Will this laptop sell?

The Windows-based Tablets are coming!

Finally! The anticipated windows-based tablets are soon coming to the market, should we believe this ad by HP (hewlett packard) showing one of their upcoming products.

I know a lot of you have been commenting "i'd rather have something windows based, rather than android or iOS", and I thought you'd like to hear! Personally, I'm still not sure wether or not to wait for this, go for the Galaxy Tab, or the Nokia laptop.. etc. I'm so indesicive!

From experience, I know that HPs machines tend to overheat sometimes and crash quite frequently, so I don't think I'd be buying THEIR iPad-rival when it's coming out, but perhaps some other 3rd-party windows-device-producer.

Anyways, these mobile devices now-a-days have such fast SSDs implemented in them, so I think they'll all be quick. The thing I like about Windows, however, is how you can install more ram. I had a professional do it to my current PC a few years ago -- and I remember it speeding up a lot! Anyways, I think the bottleneck in these systems will be the screen, and how it uses a lot of battery. It also has touch-capabilities (capacitive!) which makes it overheat quicker if you play.

I think I'll have to wait and see if there are more of these psuedo-mobile devices coming out! Stay tuned for more!

Perhaps the Nokia ultraportable suits my needs?

I was recommended a regular PC from one of my readers, and thought I'd check out some non-mainstream deals!

Look at that beauty! Personally, I think it can rival Apple's award-winning design, easilly. It's also loaded with powerful technology, and even has an HDMI-out from what I've heard. It's quite light with it's 1.25kg and the 10" screen -- just enough to browse the web!

This is a computer that hasn't gotten a lot of hype, even though I think it should. In the YouTube-video below, you can see a detailed presentation of the PCs specs etc. It's also a very well-made commercial / promo!

I like how you can connect to the 3G-network with it, so you can be online ALL THE TIME! Suits my needs perfectly. As far as I know, it's a powerhouse for it's size, and Nokia has designed it well to run Windows 7 natively -- Microsoft's best OS thus far.

What do you guys think? Does it look good?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab

Behold, the Samsung Galaxy Tab! The arch-nemesis of the infamous iPad!

As many of you know, I'm on the look-out for new portable devices, be it a mobile phone or a portable computer. When I stumbled across this, I thought perhaps it can serve both needs?

I've always wanted something with touch-capabilities, especially on such a large and vibrant screen. (Samsung is good on screens, I've heard) Also this is supposed to be a device with bigger gigabytes than Apple's iPad and thus faster for both surfing the web, and the occational games.

What I'm wondering is wether this device can serve as a phone or not? If it could, that'd be awesome. If it can't, it's still a good replacement for a portable computer or a netbook -- right?

Apple's devices often lack flash, is this true with the Galaxy Tab? I'd like to use flash-games and browse YouTube natively, and not just through some app.

Anyways, please tell me what you think about this device! Will it fit my needs?

Mac Book Pro and Apple in general

In relation to iPhone 4 and getting a new cellphone, I came to think of the Mac Book Pros and how ingeniously designed they are. I especially like the unibody philosophy seen in the picture. Basically, the whole mac is a single aluminium shell. That results in a very unique and timeless design -- which I like!

I also hear that Macs have more gigabytes than PCs in general, and so are faster. Does the design maybe have something to do with this? (aerodynamics, etc?) Anyways if I wanted a Mac I would go for a Mac Book Pro 13" or 15" -- I hear they're the fastest in terms of size. They also have the new Intel graphics and harddrivers, which make them really fast when you need to shutdown quickly. You can also upgrade your screen so that you can view webpages more quickly and youtube videos more smoothly.

Too bad it doesn't play games that well, but you can always upgrade it with better parts so you can run the games better.

Macs are also pretty expensive. What do you guys think? Are they worth it?

Spotify -- free music streaming

Many of you probably know about this great music streaming programme called spotify, however I thought it would be a great idea to tell those who *don't* know about it!

Spotify is a free programme to download; you just have to register and login to access a huge database of musical deliciousness. The free version offers 20 hours worth of music streamed every month, but you can pay for a premium or unlimited account to get an infinite amount of music! Also the free version has ads every few songs, though I've listened all day without hearing anything about lame ads! It seems kind of random, to be honest.

With premium you can even stream the music to you mobile phone, and access your playlists offline! It's amazing how that's possible. STREAMING OFFLINE. Though I think they acctually save the songs on your pc or something, since it's only your playlists (YES, you can make playlists!!).

Anyhow, check it out if it seems interesting! I think it's available everywhere!

I've also heard of other streaming services like WIMP, but I've never tried it. Any thoughts?

Perhaps an HTC is more suitable?

As you might know from my previous blog-entry, I'm looking for a new phone. Amongst the various replies I received, a reccommendation towards the Android-platform was given. I checked out various phones based on this OS ('Operative System' for the less techonlogycally gifted ;);)) and I found that HTC has a lot of these phones. Apparently the HTC Desire (in the commercial above) is one of their best phones, and I really like the size of the display.

Do you believe this phone can rival the iPhone 4? In terms of usability, functionality and speed.

Perhaps you have other recommendations? I'm open to everything!

iPhone 4 -- a good choice?

Oh... I want the iPhone so badly! However I don't like Apple and their proprietary software, like iTunes and such. It's always such a hassle to synchronize songs etc. I don't know how much money I've lost because I synced to the wrong pc/mac etc...

But their products are so beautiful and full of design!! Especially the iPhone 4 appeals to me due to it's sharper edges and more sophisticated looks. Still, it's very expensive, but maybe for a reason...

Any other "smartphone" recommendations? Do you agree Apple is maybe a bit expensive for what you get?

Insane mountainbiking!

I stumbled upon this video as I was looking for cool mountainbiking videos, and I must say I'm amazed!

Idk if you can classify this as mountainbiking, or _traditional_ moutainbiking, at least. To me it looks like this type of biking is a big part of their culture! They even sacrifice their own house for the purpose of this race, and it really amazes me how people can be so interested in something. This must be very important for them. It's kind of funny to see the trophies at the end, and they're not very glamorous..

Do you know of any similiar places where there's a sport that's so important for the people?

Behold, the gateway to Acou's interests!

Hi there!

I've never created a blog before, but might as well start now. Right? I heard about how you can make money by writing about random stuff -- as I will probably be doing -- and though, "why not?" Thus this blog was created!

Technology is something that interests me, but also fashion and everyday stuff! I'm interested in most things, including what other's find intersting. I thought this might be a good way to find new intriguing things through other's blogs -- I'm always open to new stuff!

As for my blog-posts, they'll often be recitations of news that _I_ value and acknowledge. You could say this is a collection of what I find important!

Acou out! :)
